I, too have this problem - I took it to a repair company - they explained - I have left the connecting lead in the port[harddrive end] and transported it - along the way the power connector in the harddrive has broken away from the rest of the 'chip[?]' therefore no connection...I think I need a technician to repair this - but, I don't know - the repair company was reluctant and not all optimistic that I could ever recover my documents....not all happy about that - so many tax documents and personal stuff that can't be duplicated anywhere else...

I have this problem also - I was thinking it might be problem of the cable so the connection was disrupted, Need some suggestion ....

At this point you don't know if it's the hard drive or the power to it. Remove the drive, put it in an external enclosure or use a universal adapter and identify the problem area.

@mayer, you can't do that on a WD Passport. The USB port is fused to the actual drive. In essence the enclosure is the hard drive.

I have the same problem with three WD Mypassport USB HD. I unistall the driver and re-installed again, only two of them connected.

I connect the "failed" drive into my Samsung TV and it work. I can see all my files and pictures and videos. But nothing in any computer. I used the same cable and connector. To double check, I connected the other HD into my TV Samsung and all work.

Here is the question: Why this "failed hard disk" cannot connect to my Pc but yes, it connects to my TV Samsung? Is it a driver problem? For sure.

Can WD be responsible on this providing me the reigth driver? May the latest driver don't work in more than 5 years olde MyPassport disks?

Try another computer. The WD Passport doesn't not need any drivers to work. The SES drivers are for if you decided to encrypt the data on the hard drive. but if you can see stuff when connected to the TV, it means the computer's the issue, not the WD Passport.

try a new cable. That fixed mine I got it off Amazon. If that doesn’t work you’ll have to try and find somebody who can solder a new USBport on it or get a new main board if you can find one to match. Or even do some swapping like the following link explains this probably requires extremely advance soldering skill.
