MacBook fan not running, iStat showing 0 RPM.

MacBook 13" Unibody Late 2008

I have a late 2008 Unibody Macbook where the fan has stopped working. I can't think of anything that could have done the damage other than just generally being quite old and knackered. I have tried using smcFanControl to manually set a speed as well as resetting SMC but to no avail. I have attached a picture of the connector to the fan and it looks as if the fan is still connected. I'd appreciate any input and ideas you may have on the matter.

Hey again. Just a quick update.

I received the replacement fan today and installed it without any issues, it was all in all a very painless experience. Thanks for your suggestions and guidance.

Here's the guide on replacing the fan: MacBook Unibody Model A1278 Fan Replacement

Here are the part numbers that will work: Apple Part #: 922-8620, 661-5418, 661-9530, 922-9530, 661-4946

Thank you very much for answering. I hoped that wouldn't be the solution but I guess it could be a lot worse. Do you by any chance know if any spare parts retailers shipping to Europe? Haven't had much luck finding someone sending the replacement fan to Denmark. Again thank you for answering.

Try googling the part number with Apple as the prefix: i.e. Apple 922-8620 I'm sure you'll find a local source that way.

Yes, try the iFixit Europe store here: https://eustore.ifixit.com/en/iFixit-in-...

Thanks, I managed to find the correct part on Amazon.co.uk before I saw your link but I will definitely keep it in mind, It seems very handy. I managed to remove the screws holding the fan in place even though they were in pretty poor condition with some manual filing work, so I'll look forward to getting it and trying to install it. Thanks again.

Also, how did you find the correct part number? Is there a website with a list for each Macbook model?

The parts link and numbers are on the guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody and MacBook 13" Unibody Fan

Try simply replacing the fan. It's so cheap it'd almost be pointless to not give it a shot. Sometimes its the obvious things ;)

Yeah that's what I ended up doing though I hoped there was a quicker fix.
