Why isn't my MacBook Pro turning on?

I was trying to back up my moms iPhone and My MacBook Pro all of a sudden turned off without any warning or anything.

I didn't even plug the phone in to the cord. All I did was plug in the USB part for the phone to the USB connector.

My computer was at 30 or 40 percent when it just decided to turn off.

It won't show the power indicator or anything and the charger is a dim green colour only seen if you can cover it up with your hand or if the light is off its that dim.

I tried a SMC reset and it didn't work with the computer plugged in. It won't show the power indicator lights when I press it on the side either. I had this exact issue in the past with it and Apple said they unplugged the battery connector and re-connected it and it worked.

Could it be the battery or did i fry up the motherboard when the iPhone cord was plugged in?

Relax, your mothers iPhone was not likely the cause here, just bad timing. I assume your moms phone is working and can get charged up with its own charger.

Take a look at the pins in the MagSafe Adapter. They extend and retract and sometimes a pin sticks down. Use a tooth pick to test if it goes in and out. Also use a multimeter to test the output of the pins. #2 & 4 carry the current.

I would start off by cleaning the contacts on both the computer and the power adapter as it looks dirty. Use a cotton swab (Q-Tip) with a good grade of isopropyl alcohol 85% or better.

I would try a new MagSafe power adapter to see if the problem was a bad unit.

If that didn't make a difference you might need a new MagSafe DC-In Board. Here's the IFIXIT guide to replace it: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 MagSafe DC-In Board Replacement if you haven't worked on computers before you may want to let Apple or Apple qualified tech replace it for you.
