How to disable touchpad while using mouse

MyAcer Aspire E1-572-6870 running Windows 8.1 64-bit OS had a control in system tray prior to recent reload, but no longer available. I believe there may be a way to switch touchpad on and off using function key(s) but can't find any documented guidance. Trial and error seems to be operated by Mr Murphy, Any advice will be much appreciated. ~( ; -- ]

The full answer, in my case, is that pressing the function (Fn) key and the F7 key simultaneously did solve the problem ONLY AFTER I got off the web. It works fine at desktop and start screen, it works fine in all Office 365 programs, but my touchpad cannot be switched on or off while I'm within either IE 11.0.9600 or Firefox 41.0b7. Whichever mode the the touchpad is in (on or off) prior to opening either of these browsers, is what I'm stuck with until I exit the browser, switch touchpad mode, then re-open the browser. WEIRD!
