Phantom 3 Professional crashed vertical down

I was flying with strong GPS signals in wide open grassland with no trees, building & towers. Within 7 minutes of flight, the Phantom 3 started to spun 360 degree and with no control it crashed vertically down. The crash resulted to bad damage on the shell body, Gimble arm broke with camera ( although camera looks fine), landing gear crack and props got destroyed. The firmware V 1.2.6 was fully updated, compass calliberation, and home point was done as per routine procedure. Still, it crashed.

Can somebody advise me whether this is a manufacturing defect or Pilot error? Any idea is there a vendor who can repair?

Happened to me too. I said it was caused by interference.

I just had the exact same problem only mine happened when battery was was low and counting down.

I was only 10' off the ground and from what I understand satellites don't matter at that hight because it uses the lasers.

mine shut off completely and dropped from the sky. camera arm snapped and shell got a little deformed.

wtf happened to the fail safes built in. $800 repair! This can't be pilot error.

So where did you get it repaired?

One thing I've become aware of, is that if you lose one motor, it's game over. And in a Quad, 4 motors aren't for redundant safety, quite the contrary. 4 motors gives you 4 items that can fail. Not the paradym of a twin engine airplane. So an issue with an engine operation is a possibility.

The sudden loss of power close to the ground. Were you landing where you took off? Did you have the throttle fully retarded? I'm thinking engine shut off, if it thought it was at take off altitude.

These things are engineering wonders, but part of that is simplicity of assembly. They are very modular, and simple. I made a dumb mistake, overflew the condo next to mind too low, clipped the peak of the roof, lost the camera and gimble, and on it flew!

$530 for a new 4K camera. I was told to call DJI. It's not a warrantee repair, with site like this and common sense I can do it myself. $800 for your repair, you might have saved $200 or more doing it yourself.

Go IFIXIT! THEY ENABLE US!

How low were the batteries? I've never taken it to where the batteries are gone in the air. I would think it wouldn't let you do this, but there are so many warnings from DJI about "landing immediately", is it possible you came up 10' short? I'm curious not to be critical, but just for info so I don't it.

One thing annoying about DJI part sales is that if a gimbal arm breaks the camera assembly includes the card reader.

On your flight record you could check if you ve not switch off the engines with the remote (left joystick in right down corner + right joystick in the left down corner = engine immediatly switched off).

After finding out the hard way how important compass calibration is, I was calibrating every time I used my Phantom 3. Yet last week, I calibrated the compass, set it back on the ground, took off and hovered at about 4 feet up. Everything was perfect. Climbed to about 25 feet and it went crazy, like the compass wasn't calibrated. Drifter over a busy intersection so I couldn't land... eventually crashed and I'm out $$$

Here's my theory. I got out of my car and was setting up next to a nice park with a big stone wall around it. My calibration was done holding the UAS about a foot over that wall. Chances are pretty good that the wall could've had iron in it, and as such, affected my calibration. Same with my car being parked very close.

So when I took off and hovered 4 feet up, I was still close to the alleged magnetic field interference. When I climbed up another 20, I was not. And now my compass was out of wack.

You'd have to look back at the details of your last flight to see if this could be your problem or not. Good luck, I wish you well.

My drone was about to die and I was and idiot and kept flying it. It flew into the branches of a big tree and 2 of the winds snapped in half and the whole piece with the camera on the bottom of the drone fell off. What do I do? I want to find a place where I can get it fixed for pretty low price and get it back soon. HELP. PLEASE.

I too had a similar experience with my P3P except battery still had around 30% and compass and gps all seemed to be normal until all the sudden i see just a brief clip (1-2 seconds max) of it spinning before the r/c lost connection with it completely and fell out of the sky. Weird thing was that it seemed to have lost the connection to the R/C before it ever hit the ground because the dji app still showed the aircraft at 167' when it lost connection but that maybe delay in the signal but i doubt it. Well needless to say that was high enough to cause some damage (less than expected but still bad). The case and battery seemed to of taken the brunt of the impact because the gimbal/camera were fine (minus some clips and mount plate) and only broke one prop. Battery was completely ruined and have a couple of grey wires slightly sticking out from where the case snaps together on one side so they may have disconnected from the M/B or cut (no copper showing which is good) but cant say for sure till i tear it down. Everything seems to power up fine but cant get it to connect to the controller with either the app method or manually with the controller. Does anyone know if the link between the controller and aircraft happen though a module that connects to the M/B or on the M/B itself? I'm really hoping its just that cable that sticking out needs to be reconnected or replaced or even replacing the whole radio BUT if i need to replace the whole m/b then I dont even want to waste my time. Any info would be appreciated!!
