Is it possible to use the plastic camera bracket from an iPhone 4 in an iPhone 5? I know they aren't the same look/shape, but would it still work? I have spare iPhone 4 camera brackets, but none for iPhone 5. I'm trying to avoid ordering and waiting for postage as I am replacing a screen for a friend.

No, it wouldn't work, simply because the camera bracket has two slots specifically made for the iPhone 5 camera to fit in.
