Hello,
does anybody know if the stand can be removed? Does this "card trick" still work?
I´m not talking about VESA mounting, I would just like to remove the stand and connect it later again...

No, the new thin series iMacs use a different design which prevents removal externally.

BUT they can be removed. One has to completely dismantle the machine and then one has access to the tiny screws that hold it in there. Just be 1) handy and not clumsy, 2) watch several youtube videos re the dismantling 3) use a clean open desk space to do it and 4) use 3M double sided tape when putting the screen back on.
@davidperry - Externally was what the person was looking for.as then want to travel with the stand removed and then put it back on. Apple failure was not making it an easy part to remove or exchange for a VESA mount.
Yes, you can replace it after completely disassembly of your system! Thats a bit much for a DIY'er and not something someone would do if they are traveling a lot with the system.
