First call Apple corporate and ask the cost for a "Flat Rate Repair". Next let see if we can diagnose your machine. Please give us the last four figures of your serial number located on the bottom of the stand. Then we need to take a look at the diagnostic LEDs and see what they tell us. Was the Apple Store a real Apple store or an ASP? What did they charge you?

I am not sure who to call in Australia to ask about a flat rate but have been told by others that they will only replace the logic board and not repair it even for a simple fix the last 4 figures are DDB7 and I did take it to a real apple store and the Genuis bar technicians are telling me that is what is the problem. they have not charged me anything yet as they thought it was for the power supply only which was only $134 repair which was ok now they are quoting me $1000+ to fix it I have told them I do not want a repair done at that cost as a new one is only a couple of hundred dollars more

Call Apple at this number and ask them for the cost of a "Flat Rate Repair". In Australia 61) 1-300-321-456*, just tell them it won't start. You really don't know what the problem is yet. You may have to pay for shipping or drop it off. The Apple Store should have told you about this. The cost on a MacBook Pro runs $320 US. So your fee should be close to that. They will fix any and all problems for that price.

I just called that number here in Australia and they do not offer that service here in Australia they will only quote on the repair once they see the machine. so looks like I will have to take it to a independent repairer and see if they can do it cheaper. not real happy that a just over 3 year old machine now requires $1000 worth of repairs but they have said that the hard drive is fine it is just the logic board that is the problem

There are several Mac experts on iFixit. Let's see if we can correctly diagnose what the real problem is, then armed with that you can act in a much more knowledgeable manner. Start by asking a new question, giving us the history and symptoms, remedies tried, any sounds lights the machine makes. Then we may be able to logically deduce the actual problem. The price they are asking is way out of line and more than the machine is worth.

I've found the logic board Apple Part #661-5538 for $87.50. I think we can help you to do the repair yourself for probably around $125 shipping included. http://www.gainsaver.com/Catalog/Detail....
