How to access vent light button assembly to reattach button assembly?

I have a kenmore elite microwave hood combination model 790.8037. Vent and light button assembly detached from front of microwave. The button assembly fell behind the face of the appliance. How can I take face of microwave off so I can reattach to face?

Were you ever able to fix this? Our vent light button assembly just fell in. I haven't had luck finding directions for taking apart the front face or buying replacement parts. As best I can tell, Sears recommends buying and replacing the entire control panel assembly (Part #: 5304491493 $263, plus labor).

Just unscrew the bottom of the hood and take it off. You can the reach behind where the buttons are and tape them back on or glue them.

I removed bottom of the hood but still can't access the vent and light button to reattach.

You should be able to see the buttons inside. You will have to glue them back with super glue.

I did end up fixing it with super glue. Had to slide the whole panel up and pop it out so I could get underneath and re-attach the button assembly.

Thank you for this useful post.

From the image of the panel on Sear’s parts page (OP’s link) you can see the location of the one screw that holds the panel in place. The panel has tabs that slide in then down. To get to that screw remove the vent/filter trim piece on the top. The one screw keeps it from being bumped up and off. Beware of the wires. There’s not much room to work. I took the bottom trim off but maybe that wasn’t necessary. I’m trying super-glue in three points. Looks like original installation was glue on the heads of three screws then pressed into place. If my effort at super-glue fails I’ll try using a small block of wood behind the switch plate to wedge it in.

Judie Silver, were you able to fix it? I'm confused if I take off the panel on the bottom or the panel on top. It's very awkward to work over the stove.

I fixed my Kenmore convection oven/microwave #80373. Through the "top" method, Do not remove the bottom trim. Super glued the 3 points, and a touch of duct tape on edges of circuit board to secure it in place against the plastic frame. Works beautifully! Thank you everyone!

Okay, I'm doing this now and here are the steps.

1. Unplug the microwave as you will be accessing electronic areas

2. Open the mircrowave door, remove the upper vent guard to reveal the 1 screw holding the control panel in place.

3. Remove the screw, grab control panel and slide it up and then pull out to reveal inside

4. Disconnect wiring if desired (take a picture) but remember what wire when where. Or, just work in the space provided leaving the wires attached.

5. Fix the buttons as needed (glue, wood, etc.)

6. Reattach the wiring if you detached anything, put the control panel on and slide down.

7. Reattach the holding screw and vent cover.

Glueing did not work. Were you successful using wood?
