How to Software update

I use my tab4 basically for its calendar and reminder apps. I opened the screen yesterday 12/2/14 and I had a notice that said "Software update". The defining screen said there has been an update downloaded and is ready to install. Further it says the tab4 cannot be used during update and needs to be backed up prior to update. The only information I can find on this update is at: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/. I am not really sure if I need this or want it. I cannot get out of the update screen. is there any way to delete or rather not install this update?
