Batteries wearing out too quickly?

I recently purchased a new iMac 21.5" and got the magic mouse that came with it. After about a couple of weeks, the magic mouse is reporting a battery level of 63%. It has continuously been left on for the duration but i am not satisfied that the batteries have run so low in a couple of weeks, the keyboard still reports 100%. Should i turn the mouse off at night or is there something else I need to do?

I don't turn off my Magic Mouse at night - it should go into sleep mode automatically.

I'm still on my original set of alkaline batteries with the Magic Mouse I recently got with my 27" iMac (just over 3wks now) so I can't say for sure how battery life is yet with the new MM. But I have heard reports the battery life isn't so great. however...

FYI for a few year's I've been using the predecessor - the wireless Mighty Mouse. here's what I do - I use Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries, these are NiMH batteries with extremely low self-discharge rate (they say 85% charge retained after a year on the shelf). by comparison regular NiMH cells discharge a percent or so per day.

I have 1 pair in the mouse and another charged pair always at the ready in my desk to swap out when needed. It's not practical to do this with regular NiMH cells, I've found them to lose their charge too quickly even when the mouse is asleep, and the spare set in my desk would always be low on charge once they were needed. Since switching to Eneloops I get many weeks of life out of them before recharging and the spare set are always charged up. I recommend anyone with a bluetooth mouse to give them a try

it's possible that the new Magic Mouse is more power hungry than the old mouse, with that big touch sensitive surface. I'll see how it compares when my original alkalines die, but I'm thinking this 2 pair of Eneloop system will continue to work fine for me.

30% usage in 3 weeks just seems too much, its not like apple to make such an inefficient mouse

fold up 2 thick square pieces of aluminum foil (one for each battery-kitchen foil will do) and place them on side of metal terminal (spring loaded ). I read about that somewhere and found that to be a huge improvement in my mouses performance. At first i was skeptical but trust me, if you have problems with your mouse you'll be surprised how simple it was to get the best of it. (btw it fixes connection problem as well)

if you want to get rechargeable batteries I could recommend " Sanyo eneloop" batteries with a charger in a kit. Here is what I got Couple of years ago and they still work great. BTW try cleaning your cookies cache malware and any possible junk you might have bluetooth bugs also could have effect on battery life. from my own experience i could advise you "Onyx" I've used it for years and it works wonders. (but it is a powerful cleaner and if you don't know what you're cleaning you might find yourself deleting system file or whatever so you at beginning you always get a warning message telling you to make a backup just in case. I use one pair of batteries in keyboard one in trackpad and 3rd pair is always on charger ready in case http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/26240577307... don't want to lie about how long they exactly least but I think first pair i replaced had about 4 or 5 years on them

I bought a 21" iMac in 2012 and it obviously came with a new battery set which I didn't have to change even ONCE for the next 20 months! I don't know what kind of batteries they put, but I've been going through a set of 2 in 4-5 weeks ever since. If anybody gave me a pointer as to what exactly I should check on my computer to see what is draining the batteries so fast. Muchas appreciado!

in my opinion it could be some spyware or etc ?!?! I'm thinking it disabled standby mode in your mouse "Onyx" is a free really good one give it a try

I doubt its spyware or other nasty ;-} The mouse is not intelligent enough to corrupt.

I've found the texture of the mouse pad can mess things up as the optical sensor in the mouse can't isolate out if it's moving or not. If it can't tell it wears the batteries down.

spyware preventing mouse trackpad or keyboard from going into standby mode ?!?! i bet you that this is it right there do you have another macbook or overall another pac device you could switch your keyboard with ? give it a try and godless to "Onyx"

MY 2014 Mac 21 inch is requiring battery change on the mouse every 8 weeks or so. The system goes to sleep most time I am not logged on. KC

I'm a new MAC user (for a year now) and I've also had to change batteries way too often - once a month, and I am not using my computer all day. I am out to get rechargeables as I used to do with my PC. disappointing

I have a one year old 21" MAC and just changed the mouse batteries for the first time. Don't do anything special, mouse spends most of it's time in sleep mode. The more you use it the faster the batteries are going to drain. If you are unhappy with burning through batteries I would suggest getting a couple sets of rechargeables.
