Adding extra fans to the system is usually a waste of time, especially on PS3's where there is a huge system fan as well as no room for others. Depending on how old your system is, you may be able to reduce a lot of heat simply by changing your power supply. A touch inspection will reveal how hot yours is running. If you have the first generation fat that can play PS2 games (These PSUs were the hottest), you can replace it with one from a newer fat system that will run significantly cooler. This site gives a chart that shows power supply compatibility between systems, I would take a look at that first. If you have a newer system, make sure that you properly applied thermal paste after fixing the YLOD. You need just enough to completely cover the CPU/GPU dies and no more, it shouldn't ooze or build up around the base of the chip. If you have a newer fat PS3, you may want to consider replacing it's 15-bladed fan with a 19-bladed fan that came installed on early systems. Compatibility of fans is also listed in the site above. Good luck!
