Step 12 of teardown shows a iPod

I got in an Airport Extreme base station that the customer says was hit by lightning. Step 12 of the teardown shows an iPod, does anyone know why? Also is there anything in particular to look for to prove lightning damage on the unit?

Also, lightning damage (If that's what killed it) would be most evident near the LAN ports, and power connector towards the back of the unit. I would recommend looking under the heatsinks, and metal tape that covers the actual airport card as well for any damage.

And have you tried a different power brick? Lightning would kill the power brick before it kills the entire unit, and if lightning is what ruined the unit, then it almost certianly ruined the power supply as well, I suggust first opening up the power supply and checking for a dead fuse.

Replaced the brick with no luck

Well, once you open it up, your best bet would be to look for anything that looks burnt, deformed, or out of place. Sometimes, when circuits go, they leave a small burn mark on the metal or plastic of the enclosure that covers them. Step 12 of the guide is just a little note that generalizes what ifixit does, and sells, not uncommon since they made the guide. You find this in some of their older (2009) teardowns.
