My hard drive is shot, can I recover my music?

An iPod classic was apperantly dropped, the rhythmatic clicking came from the iPod and it wont boot up. im going to replace the hard drive but i need to know if there is any way i can keep my music and videos. i would assume not, but its worth asking.

What do you sync your iPod to?

Unfortunately, this is a catch 22 as far as data recovery - if you can get to the data, then the hard drive's not the problem. But if the hard drive is the problem (as it sounds like it is) then you'll be unable to access the data. As Skippy and rab alluded to, the iPod's data should be backed up to whatever computer it is synced with, which means that you can just start again with a fresh hard drive and have no problems.

If you backed the iPod up to a computer, then yes. But there is no economical way to recover the music from the Hard Drive.

Well if you happen to already own data recovery software (which is a good investment), or your media is worth $99+ then I'd say it's economical.

I agree with what rab almost said. It's all on the computer in the iTunes you downloaded from in the first place.
