After spill, MacBook Pro 2012 starts up and stops

Update.

The battery is shot, but after a good cleaning the laptop boots into safe mode.

However, it asks for my password and of course my daughter does not remember it.

Any way to work around this, or any other suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. I'm a pC so am a bit of a fish out of water in mac land!

SO if you do respond, please remember my lack of knowledge / experience.

I also have another macbook npw (older version 4.1). Can I run anything with the damaged drive hooked up to it via USB to determine what the HD issues may be? The older mac is running Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Thanks again all!!!

I'll keep trying! At least it starts!

So my daughter spilled red wine on her 2012 Mac Book Pro. I took it home, cleaned it up (alcohol, etc) and dried it out.

Everything looked pretty good. I took the hard drive out and was able to recover all her data. After cleaning and drying, I put the hard drive back in. When I got it, it was totally dead. After cleaning, it turns on, shows the apple and then cuts out.

Any ideas on what to do next or how to trouble shoot this??

I feel we're close!

Thanks for any help provided in advance. you guys are great!!

Thanks for all the help. I was able to get all my data from the hard drive. Next step is to see if it boots up in another mac.

If you've got a DVD system disk with the machine try to start up from it by holding down the "C" key. If not, you need another Mac and an external hard drive enclosure or a Universal Adapter. Then you can run Disk Utilities and make sure the hard drive is working properly. Next, a spill usually shorts out the upper case and requires replacement. Keyboards can be changed on the 15" machines but not the 13". Please give us the last four figures of your serial number so we know your exact machine. These are located in very fine print on the back of your machine.

I did take out the hard drive and it seems to be working. I accessed all of the data using my windows laptop and HFSexplorer and was able to recover it.

I do not have a system disk unfortunately. It is a 13" Macbook Pro - 2012.

Thanks for your comments

Try starting up holding down the "R" key and see if you can use Disk Utilities. You may need to try to "Restore" the system.

Well now it does start up and not shut off immediately. I get the apple screen, but it does not go beyond that. When U try to it the R key, it shuts down.

I may have to go back in and do a better job of cleaning. I guess this is some progress??

You really need another Mac to verify that it's not the hard drive. But it sounds like multiple issues. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
