Why wont my screen come on but external DVI Port works?

My A1261 17 inch Macbook Pro fell off the couch and landed on the side with the magsafe charger and then would not take a charge but everything worked wonderfully until the battery went dead. i was told to replace the Left I/O boad which i bought here at ifixit and installed it. it came right up after this. YAA! thanks to you for that. after about 3 or 4 minutes the monitor went off and will not come back on. today i tried to use the external DVI port and my LCD TV and to my suprise it worked wonderfully for over an hour. what do you think would be the problem causing this?

Loose cable - shorted inverter - broken backlight. Some part of the internal display chain as the external monitor working shows that the GUP/VGC logic board is ok.

when i installed the left i/o board did i have to disconnect any cable to the display chain? i didn't think i did but not positive.
