I've seen some people say replace the camera flex? A few people have said this works. I have the same problem and am considering trying that solution.

Check out our blog post on this issue, their are several different issues that can cause it including the Compass/Accelerometer IC:

I love you iRepairNational! I have seen your post here before, and just now remembered it when I needed it. I have an iPhone 5 here right now with water damage. I have replaced/reflowed all the connectors and put back everything that was damaged....EXCEPT the compass ic. Still booting up with NAND error messages.

This is one of those Eureka times where you can JUST TELL that replacing the compass ic will solve this. I can't believe I forgot this. Thank you!!!

NAND errors are usually related to a flex cable problem. (And when they are not, it is the motherboard). If it wasn't doing this before your screen replacement, it is probably a flex cable. Try booting the phone with only the power flex installed and see if iTunes recognizes it.

I reattached and still got the same error. I then disconnected both sensors to see if it would boot and once again got the same error. I ordered the new front facing camera and sensor flex cable. Do you think this will resolve the issue, or could my logic board be done?

Am I looking for iTunes to recognize it or not recognize it to tell if it's a motherboard issue?

Hi mate yeah same problem...SOLUTION: I replaced the display with a working display..obviously both displays were working but jessabethany was right. Its the front facing camera flex...either check it ifs all connected or just replace... Also the camera speaker and proximity sensor are connected through some pins that may require reflow of solder...theres about ten small pads..if these get loose its probably whats causing the error. i just replaced display to isolate problem and itunes restored fine...

yes very true, the camera /sensor/ mic/ head speaker, ribbon cable are to blame for this, my suggestion would be restore without the screen, via iTunes then, after iTunes has finished turn off device, fit without that ribbon see if that works, if yes you know its a faulty camera ribbon etc... you can fit the one to the new screen, just remember to use the old head speaker/phone as well, i had an incompatibility issue so used my old, remember to fit it well as the sound will be terrible otherwise! thanks for your suggestions, prevented another phone going to landfill.. thank you!

I used WhiteOut after getting the NAND Flash display error and found it to be an excellent workaround. I've done this several times with both the iPhone 4/4S and 5. Special Note: The front sensors are all sensitive to visible light (proximity sensor, ambient sensor, etc.).

Sensor flat cable is damaged, plug it off the motherboard and try restoring the iPhone (hard reset method).
