I can't change the lightbulb by myself!

I have a bulb out in one of my lamps. Can someone come over and change it, please. Please be sure the wattage is consistent with what the lamp can handle. I prefer soft white and am a GE fan, but any manufacturer will do. Also, I don't really like the energy saving flourescent as they cast a ghastly green shadow on my otherwise ghostly complexion.

How many (Aggies, Poles, etc.) does it take to install a light bulb? How high is this lamp? Can we get to it with a fork lift or do we need a fireman type ladder? Who's paying for all this?

I guess we are happy Gabe didn't call 9_ _ .

Maybe someone will do a teardown this so we'll all know how.

This is a real hard one. I suggest we'll fly in a quick response team of experts ;-)

I can definitely change that, for a fee. Plus travel expenses, and 10% of all merchandising, perpetuity, and ancillary rights... aaaaanyway...

Well, as iFixit doesn't really offer services, I'll try to walk you through this in as clear a manner as I can.

First of all, it's helpful to do this in the day time- then you can see what you're doing.

  1. Turn off the light
  2. Wait a minute for the bulb to cool down
  3. Look at the number that is on the top of the bulb- it's probably something like 40W or 60W
  4. Make sure you have the proper replacement- I would suggest not going above a 60W bulb
  5. Gently unscrew the dead bulb. Make sure you work in a straight pattern, so as you can get the bulb out with minimal hassle
  6. DON'T TOUCH THE INSIDE OF THE SOCKET!!!
  7. Get your replacement bulb and carefully screw it into the socket. You'll know you've screwed it in far enough when it is firm, but not unmovable.
  8. Flip the switch. If you worked carefully, you should have a working light again.

Enjoy!

By the way, this was all in jest.

don't you think we should check to see if the bulb is really out first? Maybe it's not screwed in far enough. or maybe it got unplugged, or maybe the switch is broken, the wall plug could be out or the electricity could be off. Maybe the OP just has a loose screw ;-) + vote for the thought

Get a girl friend, you obviously spend to much time on the web.

Humor is good around here, and while I'll admit this question is a little comical, that's just uncalled for. -1

another down vote from you rab? and why me?

Because I don't think it's funny that you're ridiculing someone who needs help, it's very insular and gives a bad rep to this site, not very encouraging or particularly helpful. This 'answer' also should be a comment, so that's that. but I'll leave it at that, I'm not getting into an argument.

another two downvotes today a year after the question was asked, and anonymous to boot. There really are some cowardly scum bags around here. At least rab had the balls to say why. Put up or shut up.

+ Gabe more than likely needs a girl friend. If he's lucky he'll find one that knows how to screw in a light bulb.

Check if the lamp is still under warranty. If so call the support line and they'll give you a RMA number to ship back the lamp and you'll get a new one. If you're lucky they can even ship you the newer model.

At about the age of nine, I stuck my thumb in a light socket just to see what would happen. Therefore, from personal experience. I can solemnly attest and confirm that Brock is telling the truth.

IT B****Y HURTs !!!

(And here in the U.K. we have 250 Volts.)

(Well actually only about 242 by the time it gets to the little village where I live now.)

Did this experience really change my life ? I became an electrician, and have had a good few belters since then.

Please take our word for it, ...

DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME !

If you are have trouble extracting the old bulb, here's a proven safe method:

You will need: crate of beer, firm hands (at first).

1- Unplug lamp,

2- Hold on to bulb,

3- Drink beer until room spins, et voilĂ ! Easy out!
