Sleep or Snooze light works sometimes

The sleep light works properly for day or say a week then it will not light up again. If I then jugg or push the latch bar several times it will function perfectly again for a period of time. Can anyone shed some light on this problem.

Thank you for your response but my PowerBook goes to sleep and wakes up properly so it is not those problems. The problem is that the light in the switch does not pulse on and off all of the time. Could the screw that holds it to the latch be loose? Or maybe the plug is loose? I am asking because someone else has this problem and can give me some info before I have to take the computer apart
