Why does it randomly restart?

Very inconsistent, very random restarting. Also heats up very quickly and is very hot during normal operation. Using smcFanControl. Tried underclocking with CoolBook but gave up. Also very inconsistent and random video anomalies, showing as horizontal lines of off-color pixels. Do you think I need to replace the logic board? Thanks!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

So, I went ahead and ordered the tools/grease, disassembled my A1150, cleaned the old grease and carefully applied the new thermal grease, re-assembled and booted up.

Initially, everything seems to be working fine, and cooler, too. The fans where automatically adjusting to the temperature (which I couldn't remember the last time this happened), cooling the book as needed.

Then it finally froze, and after I force-restarted, the heat is back, the fans are constant at low speed even when it's hot, and the freezing has returned (though it has not randomly restarted yet)!

Does anyone have any ideas? Is it the logic board? Thanks!

It certainly sounds like it.

Try resetting the SMC.

Thanks, I did. Same thing, tho it hasn't done a random restart. It has frozen, it won't boot, off-color horizontal lines all over the place.

Ouch, sounds like a dying logic board.
