Have tried plugging it into my mac and it hasn't come alive...

I was working after i swapped the digitizer, however the digitiser ribbon wasn't seated correctly... i had the lcd out again in order to seat the ribbon correctly. After that the LCD now isn't working.

Any Ideas... I haven't altered anything other than inserting the Digitizer ribbon correctly.

Please Help :D x

I took the adventure of replacing the digitizer by self and i got the same problem that it didn't turn on after reconnecting the lcd panel and new digitizer. i thought it is because batter is drained out.. but after doing the hard reboot by holding the power button and home button for sometime (may be around 1 min) it finally turned on and all worked like charm.

Try holding the power button and the home button for like 10 seconds... Sometimes I find they need to be reset to reconize the new lcd...

You can also try plugging it in to a computer to see if it powers on. The power button may not be functional. I know on the iPad 2, it's very easy to tear the power button flex cable during digitizer removal.

I find it very hard to believe that a restore is actually necessary here. A restore seems like a really difficult way to accomplish the same thing as a hard reset.

If you can't do a hard reset because buttons dont work, then just unscrew and lift the board off the battery for a few seconds then reseat----Apple logo appears unless you have actually damaged the LCD---which is pretty hard to do on a 3 if it was working prior to the repair.

You have probably accidentally disconnected the LCD from the motherboard, or damaged the LCD.

If this happens I usually just unscrew the logicboard and pry it slightly to disconnect it from the battery. Then try again and it usually works .

since I know every thing is ok there and the ipad was on tried to connect to usb charger and the sound notification was heared , in this case I knew that i need to reset the tablet .

so one long press over the home key with the same time pressing the power on key , the Ipad turned of and then when turned on by the on/off key every thing was good .

I had the same problem on a customer unit. Restoring with iTunes fixed it. Restoring may not work all the time though, so make sure the data is backed up!

I had this problem too.I changed the broken digitizer. Before I put everything together I tested. LCD wont turn on. There was no way I could hard boot because the screen was blank. Ipad was making sound while connected to the computer though. Also, itunes could find the ipad. So I restored it using itunes and it fixed the problem. I am sure it will work 90 percent of the time. Good luck!!

I had to change the battery on an ipad 2. Upon replacing cover, the unit boots up great, but only the bottom third of the touch works. The screen is lit perfectly, but you have to rotate the screen to have icons to respond. Does this sound like a damaged lcd or what?

That'll be the Digitiser, rather than the LCD.

Sounds like a good or bad scenario. In the good scenario case: (see steps 27-32) when putting the device back together, the digitizer cable did not make full connection. You need to push the digitizer cable, a bit harder, and more firmly into the connector. In the bad scenario: during the device opening(see steps 1-28), the digitizer or digitizer cable, got damaged, and needs replacing.

Same thing happened to my digitizer replacement. LCD would not come on. Had to press home and power on for 15 sec. Viola, works now. Thanks. Ipad 3

Try to hard reset holding power button and home button till it turn on, if it is not working check the lcd and lcd connector whether damaged or not, if lcd damaged needed to replace and if connector needed to do micro soldering

OH, what a relief!!! had the same problem with black LCD after replacing the digitizer/screen and WiFi antenna. I was soooo careful throughout the procedure, even wearing my ESD wrist strap while handling. Resetting the LCD connector three times did not help. BUT, the 15-20 Second hard reset (Power and Home Button) did the trick!

This might be a good note to add to the rpair guides... sounds like a common enough issue.

Thanks everyone!

It's possible you might have damaged the digitizer cable or not have it seated properly in the connector. I have accidentally torn part of it where it connects to the glass before. I would try another digitizer. You can find them for $9 from aliexpress, I always buy mine from there (I go through a few a year because i bought 4 ipad2 for my autistic child, nice cheap tablet for kids that is easy to repair) . You also want to make sure the digitizer cable gets folded under the display. I have accidentally had it folded between the digitizer and the frame and it caused phantom touches.
