Broken screen, partially working touch. Will I need a touch digitizer?

Somehow, in its protective cover, in a padded handbag, my Nexus 7 screen broke. It displays everything, but there's a big branching crack from the base (in portrait) to the middle. Touchscreen works normally in the non-broken parts. Can I get away by only replacing the LCD screen, or will I still need the ever so expensive touch digitizer? Thank you. The only thing you have to change is the digitizer and if i'm not mistaken is cheaper than the lcd screen .

Thank you. That's incredibly amazing news. But how is it cheaper? The LCD costs about $50 on ebay, but when you add the digitizer it costs +$150... Any sources for a digitizer?

Ussually the digitizer its a part itself but as i see for nexus is with the screen and thats why is so expensive.
