I just replaced the screen on an ipod. I was extremely careful with this installation, and yet now the power button is not working. I see no rips or tears in the cable. The power was off during install. Any ideas on whether there is a way to fix this without a whole new cable?

have you reset it as sometime you can short something when you change the screen
press and hold the POWER & HOME buttons wait till it turns off keep them pressed till it comes back on this should get it out of safe mode

I only get the voice control coming up when I try that. I just had it happen again. Power button working fine. Now not. I used plastic tools for all the areas around the power button, so I don't see how it could short out. This is REALLY maddening.
