Removed my optical drive because it was broken. Don't even really miss it to be honest. Any creative things I can do to use that space? Extra HD possibly? My guess is it isn't possible, what about a blue ray drive?

You can add an extra disk, either HDD or SSD. Here is the guide to do so:

There are blu-ray options, unfortunately its not compatible with unibody MBPs.
