Cannot power on the laptop.

The laptop is a MacBook Pro 15" A1226. The unit will not power on and I was unable to reset the SMC. The AC Adapter is able to charge the battery for the unit and has a green light on the plug connecting to the laptop. The unit is unable to power on, but will charge the battery.

Did this problem happen suddenly or did you drop or take apart the laptop?

Try clearing it out. Here's how:

How to Clear the PMU 1. Step 1 Quit all of your active applications and shut down your Mac. 2. Step 2 Once your computer is completely shut down, disconnect the computer's AC power Adapter and remove the battery from your Mac. 3. Step 3 Press and hold down the power button on your MacBook or MacBook Pro for at least five seconds and then release the power button. 4. Step 4 With your Mac still shut off, reinstall the battery in your MacBook or MacBook Pro and reconnect the AC Adapter. The PMU/SMU has now been reset on your computer.

Next try resetting the PRAM. Start up and immediately hold down the option - command and the "P" & "R" keys. Wait till you hear three tones, then let it try to start up.

Dit antwoord was oorspronkelijk aan een andere vraag gericht.

When you connect the AC adapter to the laptop, what color is the light on the AC plug? Does it appear to charge the battery? Or is there no light at all? Knowing this info will help determine whether or not your laptop is basically intact, or experiencing more severe issues.

I would remove the battery during troubleshooting in order to avoid complicating the situation. Also, definitely test the RAM -- reseat both modules, and then try powering on with one module in place, and then if that doesn't help, move it to the other slot, and try again. Lots of these machines suffer from a bad RAM slot and won't turn on when memory is in that slot.

Otherwise, try resetting the PRAM like Mayer suggested...sometimes that can "wake up" a machine.

If none of this helps -- and especially if there is no light on the AC plug -- you'll want to remove the topcase and see if you see signs of liquid damage, i.e. corrosion. If so, clean it off with q-tips and 90% rubbing alcohol, let the machine dry, and see if that makes a difference.
