I would replace the SD card reader slot as it’s way less expensive then buying a new motherboard, and it could be difficult to find the motherboard for sale.
Anyway, it depends on your de-soldering and soldering skills. If you know how to desolder and solder, and did this already a few times, you can just try it. Otherwise you could bring it to your local repair shop, so that they can repair it (I guess this is also cheaper then a new motherboard).

Edit: One more thing, the write protection switch is on the SD card. You tried that switch it and it still didn’t worked?
