Device won’t turn on
The screen doesn’t light up and all function buttons are unresponsive. This is likely because the device is not plugged in or needs new batteries. It is also possible that the power supply of the device has died which will require replacing.
The Device is not Plugged in
To start, check to make sure the connection between the power cord and the wall is secure. If that is secure and the unit is still unresponsive, check the connection at the other end of the power cord to ensure the cord is securely connected to the device.
Batteries are Dead or Malfunctioning
Open the battery compartment. Check to ensure the batteries are oriented properly; the positive and negative ends of the batteries should be placed in the appropriate terminals of the battery holder. If there is any corrosion or leakage visible, remove, discard, and replace the batteries. If the device turns on using the power cord but will not turn on using battery power, replace the batteries.
CD is Skipping
A CD placed in the player does not play smoothly. A scratched or otherwise damaged CD may be the culprit. Alternatively, dust or other imperfections on the laser diode of the disc reader might lead to poor playback.
Imperfections on CD
If smudges, dust, or other particles are visible on the CD, you’ll want to clean the CD. To clean, gently wipe the surface with a microfiber cloth or other designated CD cleaning methods, being sure not to touch the bottom surface of the CD.
Laser Diode Malfunctioning
If dust or other particles are present on the player’s diode, use a Q-Tip and isopropyl alcohol to remove the particles and clean the diode.
No Sound for AM/FM Radio
No sound can be heard on either the AM or FM radio.
Jukebox on Incorrect Function
First check to see if the correct function, either AM or FM is selected. To select AM/FM click the button with the AM/FM labels.
Volume Turned All the Way Down
Check to make sure the volume wheel is not turned all the way down. Though not completely muted, the volume at this level is so low it may seem that nothing is coming out.
CD Unable to Play
The CD will not play once placed in the player. It may be that the CD is not properly inserted in the player, the player is not set to play, or the volume is turned all the way down.
Player on Incorrect Function
Make sure the correct function labeled CD is selected. To select CD, click the button with the CD label.
CD Not set to Play
It is possible that the PAUSE or STOP button may be selected, preventing your CD from playing.
Volume Turned all the Way Down
Check to make sure the volume wheel is not turned all the way down. Though not completely muted, the volume at this level is so low it may seem that nothing is coming out.
CD not Placed Properly
Double check that the CD is inserted correctly, with the shiny, readable half facing down and the labeled half facing up. It is also possible that the CD may have been placed in the player loosely; the CD should click around the player spindle (center piece) for a snug fit.
Distorted Noise for AM/FM
The noise that should be heard from either AM or FM stations is coming in distorted. This boombox uses an antenna to receive radio signals which may need to be adjusted or the device itself may not be set to the proper AM/FM setting or channel.
Antenna pointed in the Wrong Direction
When distorted noise is heard on AM or FM radio settings, first check to see if the antenna is properly adjusted. The antenna may need to be lengthened if it is completely or partially collapsed, or rotated to a different position until the signal becomes clear.
Device not Pointed in Correct Direction for AM
If the AM radio function is coming in distorted, the entire device may need to be rotated or re-positioned until a clear sound is heard.
Incorrect Station Selected
For either AM or FM radio stations, make sure the station is properly tuned. The exact station must be set on the device to hear clear sound, even .1 of a station difference can drastically affect being able to hear the station clearly.
Multi-functional Display Not Working
Nothing appears on the display, or the display is illegible. This may be because the device is not booting properly or it is malfunctioning.
Device Not Booting Properly
First, try turning the device off and on again. Though this fix may seem foolish, sometimes all the device needs is to be restarted.
Batteries are Dead or Malfunctioning
It is possible that the batteries are nearing the end of their life, try replacing them with new batteries.
Broken Display
As a very last resort, it is possible to replace the display completely. This is covered in a repair guide: Memorex 2Xtreme MP3830-01 LCD Display Replacement
