How to fix "Insufficient storage available" message, or blue screening
Checking the Storage
If the laptop shows a message saying “Insufficient storage available”, then the storage may be full. The storage can be verified by clicking the folder at the bottom of the screen and clicking “This PC”, which will display the available storage. This task can also be done by clicking the Windows icon, then the Settings button. In Settings, select the System settings at the top and then find storage on the left side of the screen. This will also display the available storage.
- If Storage is Full
If the storage is full, then additional means may be required to add storage space. This can be done by adding an SD card into the slot on the side of the computer, or by adding a USB drive into one of the USB ports. A USB drive has a variety of storage options and can often have more storage than the hard drive. However, the USB drive can only be connected to the computer with the use of a USB adapter.
- If Storage is not Full
If the storage is not full, then the SSD may need to be replaced. Use this guide to replace the SSD.
Blue Screen
A blue screen is an indicator that the SSD will need to be replaced. The blue screen will cause an immediate restart. The blue screen often appears on startup, but it can occur at any point during operation of the PC. It also can occur during every startup without allowing login, which is a direct indicator of a faulty SSD. If possible, backup all files on the hard drive prior to replacement, then use this guide to replace the SSD.
