Laptop gets hot
A lot of hot air is coming out of the vents or laptop shuts down due to high temperature.
Dust in vents
The cooling vents are located on the bottom and left side of the laptop. Blow compressed air into the vents on the laptop, and into other openings such as the fan intake vent to help keep the air circulating and prevent dust from accumulating on components.
Poor ventilation
Keep the laptop upright and on a sturdy, level surface. Provide about 6 inches of clearance around each vent. If the laptop is being used at very high altitudes, around 5000 feet, take extra care to keep the laptop cool.
Environment is too hot
If the laptop is overheating, place it in a cooler room. A small difference in temperature might be all that is needed to prevent the laptop from overheating.
Possible hardware failure
In Windows, search for and open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows app. If the app isn’t on the laptop, download the latest version from the HP hardware diagnostics website (http://hp.com/go/techcenter/pcdiags). On the main menu, click system tests. Click the system fast test tab. Click run once. While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component displays on the screen.
Laptop doesn’t turn on
Laptop won’t turn on when the power button is pressed.
Battery is loose
The battery may be inserted incorrectly. Check to make sure it is inserted properly and locks into place.
Battery is worn out
The battery may have become worn with use over time. Follow the guide on how replace the battery with a new one (not made yet).
Power cord is unplugged
The device may not have enough power to boot up. Verify that the power cord is plugged securely into an outlet and the laptop.
Laptop running slowly/ lagging
The device takes a long time to load/ process information or it lags often.
Too many running applications
Sometimes, a laptop trying to run too many applications in the background can be slowed down or lagged. To solve this, you can disable certain programs from running in the background by opening settings, clicking on privacy, selecting background apps, and switching the unnecessary ones to “off”. (Specific for Windows 10, but very similar to other operating systems)
Laptop contains malware
A virus is another common problem that could slow your laptop down. If your laptop came with anti-malware software, just open the application and run a diagnostic. If not, open up your browser and download trusted malware protection software, and then run the diagnostic. This should take care of the virus.
Limited RAM
This laptop supports a maximum of 8GB of RAM. Adding up to 8GB of RAM memory will allow your laptop to process more information at a faster rate, increasing its running speed. This can be done by following the steps for replacing the memory module here: HP Pavilion g7-1365dx RAM Replacement
Operating system out of date
A lot of times, an update is available, but never installed for your specific operating system. These steps might be slightly different for different systems, but in general, you have to open the control panel, click on “System and Security”, and finally selects Windows Update to check for any available system updates.
Laptop powers up, but screen doesn’t work
The laptop turns on, but the screen remains black and doesn’t respond.
Necessary power reset
Most commonly, your laptop will just need to be disconnected from its power source for a few seconds. This can be done by disconnecting the battery by following the steps in this guide: HP Pavilion g7-1365dx Battery Replacement , and holding the power button for 30 seconds to release any charge from the capacitors inside the laptop. The battery can then be re-inserted.
Bad RAM stick
Another common cause of this problem is a faulty RAM stick or card. This has another simple solution. Simply follow the replacement guide for replacing the RAM here: HP Pavilion g7-1365dx RAM Replacement . It is best to check this potential solution by having a good RAM card ready when taking out the old one. That way, you can see if one of the cards were bad when switched around.
Faulty screen
You can simply connect your laptop to a TV with an HDMI cable. After powering up your laptop and connecting it to a TV, press buttons fn+F4 and wait a few seconds until the screen appears on the TV. These buttons in an HP laptop toggle the manual display modes. If nothing appears on your TV/ monitor, your laptop most likely doesn’t have a problem with the screen display itself. Some small defect in your Software/ Hardware is most likely causing the problem.
Laptop freezes
Laptop does not respond to anything.
Faulty mouse
Usually most of the times when users complain that their laptops have frozen, it’s mainly due to the mouse not responding or perhaps performing the operations they want it to perform. It is always advisable to check the mouse cables to see if it is well connected before jumping into conclusions that the laptop has frozen. Try to change batteries too if it is wireless.
Overheating
The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is really designed to perform/really function well in certain environments. It is really important to check the manual about storage and operating conditions. The CPU is a really big deal as it is very sensitive and integral to the functionality of the system. It is good and advisable to check the vents of the laptop to make sure it not really dirty/blocked. If working conditions are native to being above average heat or humidity; computer casing might be an option.
Too many applications
Having a lot of applications running can cause a laptop to slow down and eventually be frozen. Too many applications running at the background of the system can be the cause why a computer will be frozen. It is always advisable to run fewer applications at a rate at which it’s “sensible”; hence try closing unnecessary applications and run those actually needed at the time.
Computer viruses
Most of the time computers being frozen could necessarily be to the fact that there are viruses present on the particular device. It is always advisable to update the antivirus software to make sure it is checking for viruses and performing the required task expected of it.
Keys stick/ are hard to press
Keyboard is not working properly, one or more keys on the keyboard are getting stuck when they are pressed or are hard to press in general.
Spilled liquid on keyboard
The most common reason for getting stuck and not working properly is the spilling of beverages over the keyboard. Removing the keys that are getting stuck and wiping them with rubbing alcohol will be effective at resolving this issue.
Buildup of dust/ dirt/ hair
Using a flat head screwdriver remove the keypad to inspect it for hair, dust and dirt. Remove any buildup around where the keys would be.
Charging issues
Laptop will not charge when plugged in.
Faulty battery
A common reason for a computer not charging is a faulty/damaged battery. To check if the battery is the problem plug the charger into the computer and turn it on. After that remove the battery and observe the computer’s behavior. If the laptop stays on while being plugged and no battery you most likely have a damaged battery.
Faulty charger
If you laptop isn’t charging the charger itself can be the cause. Check the wire part of the charger and make sure there is no visible damage to it. You can also try using a different charger to test if the laptop chargers with other chargers and observe if it does. If it does then you have a damaged charger.
Battery drivers need reset
The drivers installed on your laptop can cause charging problems. It can be an update or just normal malfunctions that can be fixed by uninstalling the drivers and restarting the computer. When the computer is restarted the drivers are re-installed automatically which would fix the issues it was having.
