Antwoord op "Why is the screen not working properly?"I agree with Ron. Based on your description of the problem I suspect you sis not disconnect the battery. This often results in damage to the backlight filter on the logic board and will require micro soldering. That, I'm sorry to say, will be about a $200 repair. http://www.mendonipadrehab.com/price-list

Antwoord op "Is it safe to replace a swollen battery on my iPhone 5?"The battery replacement is not a complicated repair. If you have a local repair shop seek out assistance just to be safe, You can replace it yourself but be very careful! With it being swollen the risks of damaging the battery increases. To do it safely follow these steps; (1) Once the screen been lifted, remove the two screws holding the battery connection in. (2) Very carefully, with a plastic pry tool, disconnect the battery connector. (3) If you can gently heat the phone behind the battery the adhesive will soften making it easier to remove. (4) Very carefully, with only plastic tools, lift the battery from it's adhesive. Be patient here, you don't want to bend the battery in the process. (5) Replace the battery with a fresh one remembering to replace the adhesive if needed. (6) Charge the new battery to 100% and then another hour. (7) Recycle the battery responsibly Good luck

Antwoord op "Damage external & internal but not sure if the phone is done for"Hello Jay, I'm here to offer you a little hope. First let me say that you have an iPhone 5, not a 5s. The 5s has the touch ID and yours does not. The question is then "Is the phone worth repairing?". If you are getting alerts the majority of the phone is still working. Here is what I know you will need to repair the phone; Complete display assembly with small parts. Frame with small parts (including dock port. Battery. Again, is it worth it? Here is what you will need to attempt to retrieve the data from your phone if you have no backup; Display assembly. Battery. Dock port. Carefully remove the logic board, connect the dock port, screen and then the battery. Then connect it to iTunes and hope for the best. Good luck and I hope all goes well.

Antwoord op "Stripped screws on the step 13 - alternative options?"The display assembly does not need to be removed while replacing. While it's god practice to help prevent damage to the cables, it isn't required. make sure you support the display assembly and do not let it fall all the way back and be careful while removing the adhesive strips. I find it helps if you remove the Taptic engine just below the battery before you pull those strips, It gives them a little more room and less to hang up on. Do make sure those screws for the display are back in the proper place and set all the way in. Good luck and happy repairing.

Antwoord op "Home button doesn't work on a lock screen, but works when unlocked"Great care must be taken when removing the home button. It is easy to damage the very fragile home button flex cable while removing it. I suspect this is the cause of the symptoms you are experiencing. You can replace the home button but you will lose the Touch ID functionality. You already have so that won't yield in a net loss.

Antwoord op "Seeking info to replace cord for very old dremel-like craftsman tool"Most hardware stores have spools of electrical cable. Remove the cord from the tool and bring it to your favorite Hardware store. They will help you build a cord for your tool with the proper ends and gauge. Make sure its grounded and the gauge wire is the same or heavier than the original. I love being able to fix these old tools, they don't make them like they used to.

Antwoord op "Need phone numbers from sim. Can I use borrow iPhone 2 access?"Ben is correct, there is no personal data stores on the SIM card. It is simply your identity on your carrier network. Your contacts are stored on the phones internal memory and on your iCloud account. Log into your iCloud.com account and check to see if you have them backed up. This is usually the default setting so I suspect they should be there.

Antwoord op "What's the difference between deionized water vs distilled water etc."Hello Daniel, Distilled water and a cleaning solution (Branson EC) are often used to clean electronics that have sustained water damage. Distilled water is non conductive and safe to use. What makes the water conductive are the impurities in the water. Salts, minerals and electrolytes in the water conduct electricity between the components on the board causing corrosion. To clean the corrosion of a board effectively you will need to remove it, desolder the shields and use a quality ultrasonic cleaner. Follow that with a bath of 90% to 99% isopropyl alcohol to displace the water and allow to completely dry. I then connect to a known good screen, battery and dock port to test the board. Water damage, if not treated propererly and immediately, can be a rabbit hole. Most good techs will not do water damage repair but only treat for data recovery. Good luck Holger
