This is the hardest part during reassemble. The gold contacts need to face "down" with a half-twist of the ribbon cable. It's very easy to break. I got it upside down the first time and broke it the second time requiring replacement of the ZR button assembly.
Whew! this was by far the most complicated repair I’ve done. Very difficult because glue is the worst. Here’s a few pointers: 1.) ZIF connectors…be careful, be sure you know which direction the little hold-down bar flips up (toward the cable.) and proceed carefully. 2.) The flat cable slides out, not up. 3.) When reinserting the flat cable, make sure you insert it so the printed guide line on the cable aligns with the ZIF connector, otherwise you digitizer or LCD will not work. 4.) If you smell a funny chemical smell whilst gouging out the battery, you have torn the foil on the battery. The fumes are toxic, get ventilation and be more careful as you proceed. A respirator and gloves are not overdoing it at this point. The Glue Is A Pain! 5.)Your old battery will probably not come out in one piece. Do not throw it in the garbage, take it to an electronic waste site.
This job took me four hours and I’m not going to do this one again. Not for a device that’s 10 years old.
Right, Left…nothing straight-forward about this procedure, it’s moderately difficult simply due to the shear number of TLDR instructions and steps with no precise instructions on which side of the adhesive faces up or down. Clear backing? the strips that arrived for my repair were all stuck on one clear backing sheet with white “backing” and I just had to slog through it. Not an easy job. I did use the sticky clear backing sheet to pick up all the dust motes off the glass surfaces before I reassembled and that was a plus.
Another great guide! Done in 15 minutes and saves a TON! Small blessings…there is no glue in this repair!
This is a great guide and I should have read it more thoroughly before I placed my order. The repair kit really should include a spot of thermal paste along with the precut adhesive. That’s my only complaint. I really had no difficulty removing the battery, I used a very flexible thin guitar pick to start the “glue-slicing’ step, then I used the metal spudger from another iFixit kit to help gently pry the battery out. Came out in one piece with all the adhesive stuck on the battery.
Sounds Like A Cat In A Bench Vise! The little fans that make such loud horrible noise when they let go! Thanks for a great Guide for replacing this bit of failed engineering. Easy to follow and I didn’t loose any screws!
These Fans Are Horrible! I’ve become an expert at getting my Mac laptop open because of these horrible fans. I’ve replaced them both three times because they whine and squeal. This is a great guide for you to do the same.
Don’t Loose Any Screws! This is a very good Guide for swapping out your drive. I cloned my old drive before I swapped it out using a cheep USB drive case and downloaded clone software and I had no issues.
Not For The Faint Of Heart! This is a great Guide, but the job is difficult and fraught with potential disaster. The Guide was very careful to point out all of these concerns and I managed to swap out the display of my Mac laptop without any problems.
Works Perfectly! Replaced the broken bezel on my wife’s laptop without any difficulties!
