Professor Leslie Salas teaches in the Humanities & Communication Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Daytona Beach Campus. She holds a Master of Fine Arts terminal degree in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida and is a graduate of the University of Denver’s Publishing Institute.
As a high school student, she participated in FIRST Robotics as a member of Team 233 (The Pink Team). She distinguished herself as a leader on the team, serving as the robot operator one year while also consistently working in Public Relations, helping with the annual Chairman’s Award submission and the Art of the Bot initiative.
She went on to minor in Physics as an undergraduate at the University of South Florida, where she was a member of the Society of Women Engineers, Society of Physics Students, and was instrumental in planning their annual Engineering Expo.
Prof. Salas is an established industry professional currently serving as the graphic nonfiction / poetry comics editor for Sweet: A Literary Confection and has edited two books: the ''Other Orlandos'' Anthology (Burrow Press, 2017) and Condoms & Hot Tubs Don’t Mix: An Anthology of Awkward Sexcapades (Beating Windward Press, 2018). She is also multimodal writer-poet-cartoonist whose work can be found in The Southeast Review, Rogue Agent, Plane Tree Review, SmokeLong Quarterly, and more. Her research on comics, multimodality, and writing-in-the-industry has been presented at several regional and national conferences.
