I just completed the iPhone 4S battery replacement. The original battery was dead, so I plugged in the phone and when the battery reached 10% charge, I unplugged and went to Airplane Mode, turned off Wi-Fi and Cellular. I then started disassembly. The pentalobe screws came out easily and I pushed up on the back of the phone and pulled it off. The two screws securing the battery were stuck, but with a little more pressure I loosened both screws. That took an extra 10 minutes being careful not to strip them. I did not realize that plate was attached to the battery, but figured that out quickly when prying the battery away from the adhesive underneath. The gold/black piece popped off, but I was able to return it to it’s original position. With the new battery in I was careful not to touch the plate that attaches using the two screws with my finger. After reinstalling the back cover and screwing in the two pentalobes, I let the phone charge go from 56% to less than 10% and then charged to 100%. No problems!
