Nine or ten screws? I count ten (10) on the Aspire 5 currently being repaired.
Greetings,
This result should be considered "Perfectly Normal" for numerous reasons. Possibly the most important is all batteries have a shelf life. As they age it is common, if not expected, the charge percentage of a battery will reduce over time. Keep in mind; normally we have NO WAY of knowing how long said battery has been in storage. Or in other words laying on a shelf, (albeit very slowly), naturally decaying or able to hold/maintain full charge capacity. May I add; Even as a brand new battery, perhaps in a brand new device - 97% is acceptable. No! Your calibration process did not cause the reduction. In fact, the next time you perform a full charge don't be surprised if it displays 100%, or 99%. I suspect the monitoring itself will often display "SOME" variables. Nothing in this world is "ABSOLUTELY PERFECT"! JMHO & I hope this helps...
Thank You for the guide - very helpful. I wish it contained greater detail regarding the use of heat to loosen the adhesive. Let me reiterate; I appreciate all the effort you contributed. The last thing I want to do is complain but in my mind successfully separating the screen from the assembly "could be" the most important step in the entire procedure. JMHO DSwinhart
I have worked on computers for over 40 years. I believe this whole Dell battery / adapter / power jack / coin cell battery fiasco is "PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE" AKA "DIGITAL EXTORTION" at its FINEST! Dell appears to be MORE INTERESTED IN SELLING batteries & adapters than they are in maintaining a reputation as company that is "Trustworthy & Deserving of success"! I cannot prove it but I know its true! If you ever play around with a number of these - patterns begins to emerge with the LED's, and bogus warnings & so on. In addition, over the years the designs have changed in order to make more difficult to disconnect the coin cell battery (needed to reset many models. Let me reiterate; I CANNOT PROVE IT! BUT I BELIEVE IT IS TRUE! I NO LONGER HAVE ANY TRUST OR CONFIDENCE IN DELL WHATSOEVER! DELL USED TO BE A GREAT COMPANY. Solid State Circuitry is having similar affects throughout the digital industry. "Right to Repair" - "SOONER THE BETTER"
IMHO
The MBA I just finished with were T3. I'm fairly confident with my tools as I recently updated/upgraded nearly my entire set with WiHa. I should also mention the many tools acquired from iFixit over the years have all been were exceptional lasting years. There's no doubt iFixit would have been my source but a close friend went to work for WiHa. His discount(s) & being motivated to help him was a major impact. For anyone not having such an advantage IMHO tools from iFixit are one of the best values anywhere. Let's not forget; buying from iFixit will also help to push "Right to Repair" forward. Here in Minnesota Right to repair ALMOST PASSED. Many believe it will become law during the next session! I can't tell you how proud this would make me. I would obtain as many service manuals as possible and post them all online!!! What a great dream...
Step 16 - Note
This repair guide is “almost perfect” for HP model 15-f100dx EXCEPT - removal of the Palm Rest - MUST REMOVE BACK (under Display Panel) FIRST! Attempting to remove using - the “Begin at front corner” method “WILL LIKELY CAUSE DAMAGE”. HP is generally pretty good about supplying service manuals. I find it interesting that many of the models within 15-xxxxdx series - no “online” manuals are available. I cannot say if these manuals were ever available and HP removed them from the support site, or they never existed. This genre was during the time HP was having heat issues and conflicts with “nVidia” over “WHO was actually to blame for the heat issues”. Nonetheless, at the end of the day it was and still is us lowly consumers (and repair Techs) that were and still are the MOST affected & damaged parties. Just my humble opinion…
Hope this helps,
Doug
Seems incomplete …
Repaired customers Yoga 3 that had NO working USB ports whatsoever in less than an hour - after cleaning & replacing (no parts needed)
All USB ports were fully functional once again...
Great job & thank you for the help :)
