A look inside the Samsung QLED TV Smart Remote
-
-
Samsung QLED TV Smart Remote with Voice Command via Samsung's Bixby, and WiFi Direct
-
-
-
To open the Samsung Smart TV Remote, flip the remote over and slide the back cover down in the direction on the indicators.
-
Sliding the backside on the remove toward the indicators will expose a small gap on the front side of the remote.
-
The exposed gap allows for easy gripping of the back cover, so that the back cover can be removed.
-
Removing the back cover exposes the battery compartment, and pairing instructions for the remote.
Not happening! I will never buy a Samsung again.
I do not understand why mine doesn’t work when I do this! It just won’t budge.
I agree…it's not moving! Now what? Can't use the TV without the $5.00 remote…horrible!!
This control is a piece of $@$*. I may return the TV just because of the control!!!
My wife made a tiny gap at the back with a knife and pushed it - hurrah it worked
I’d like to see the CEO of Samsung open this remote. Horrible design.
Who designed this ?????? Does not work!
Sept 2nd, My brother and I have both tried…. not budging at all!
I agree with everyone about everything. My husband has lost his soul over it I think. He says that you need to push down and in at the same time, but only a little bit. The little clip on the top has something to do with it too. Just below that clip, push down a bit. It may or may not work for you. It took him a half an hour and use words I’ve never heard from him. Give it another try, you just never know. ??

To open the remote enclosure, a Plastic Opening Tool can be use to start the separation of the enclosure seam via the large clip opening areas. Then a Spudger Tool can be used to pry open the enclosure.
-
Once the enclosure starts to open, gentle move along the outside of the remote enclosure seam with the Spudger Tool to release the remaining enclosure clips.
What an absolutely idiotic way to take a simple panel off of the remote. This destroys the remove. I’ve been very careful and followed the instructions, but there’s no way to do this step without destroying the remote, so thanks for designing the worst remote of all time.
Tried this for over 30 mins. Couldn’t pry it open. All it did was damage the plastic on the case and bent one of my tools. So frustrating that Samsung made this not to be repaired.

Once the enclosure has been opened, the top part of the enclosure, and rubber membrane keypad can be reviewed.
-
The remote keypad area on the back of the PCB is made out of dome tactile buttons.
-
-
-
A close inspection of the tactile button side of the PCB revealed two small holes. These small holes turned out to be port openings for dual MEMS Microphones found in the remote.
-
Also, found during the close inspection of tactile button side of the PCB was that the two horizontal buttons on the front face of the remote are also able to contact tactile buttons above and below the tactile button they rest on, which means that the user can push down, push up, or pull down when using those buttons.
-
A LED was also located near one of the Microphone port holes.
-
-
-
Turning our attention to the backside of the PCB, we can review the components that give the remote its functionality. There are a number of discrete parts, transistors, and power supply ICs. Plus the components that were cross referenced listed below. Some parts could not be cross referenced. Leave comment if you know a part.

Impossible to open this remote
I finally found out why my remote turns on bixby all the time, its the Vesprr wake up mic: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/4k-8...
Samsung support say the replacement mics don't have it. Looks like this wake up technology doesn't work.
Great instructions. Some food goo got on under the click wheel, and was stuck on one side. Cleaned it up after disassembly. Ifixit is the best!!
Thanks a lot for the detailed and fully explained instructions but unfortunately even after opening the remote drying it fully and reassembling it didn't work.
Never would have gotten this apart without you. Just need a cleanup where it was getting stuck. Saved me over 40 bucks for a replacement. Greatly appreciate the help!
HI Thanks Great information.
My remote volume down is not working, but i cal increase the volume.
The idea of up / down movement is the issue i guess, it will not last for long like traditional remote. need to by new one
Currently using samsung mobile app for remote..
any suggestion,
Thanks..
Akash
Interesting, mine was the volume up - it works some of the time but not always. After taking it apart and cleaning it it has made no difference. The up causes it to click like it does down, so Im assuming that the up clicker on the circuit board is not making a good contact. I didn’t look at how easy it was to remove the sheet containing the click buttons from the board. Maybe next time i take it apart, I’ll look, and have a go at fixing it.

This remort's joy stick is not working from where use to backward the movie clip. How can u help me plz
Here is a useful video of someone’s One Remote disassembly. At 1:35, he unclips first two clips at remote’s butt with just fingers and the others with flat screwdriver.
my little girl dropping the controller into the water since the volume can go down but not go up do you have a solution
My Mom has this type of remote, with the Netflix, Prime Video and Hulu buttons on the bottom. She keeps clicking on these buttons by mistake. My question is, if I take this remote apart, can I disable these 3 bottom buttons? If so, how? Thanks so much!!
I just thought of something else. I could simply remove those 3 metal contacts, in the same fashion this person did in the below video. And then the buttons for Netflix, Prime Video and Hulu would no longer work.

It worked. I simply removed the 3 metallic clickers/contacts from under the 3 buttons by cutting them out with a razor blade and now those 3 buttons are DEAD. Great! No more accidental clicking on those buttons.

Very clear instructions! Many thanks…
my remote would not open either by sliding or pressing…extremely frustrating:- Alan NZ
Buttons clicking but not sending a signal usually means there is residue under the metal contact device. The mechanism under the rubber button is really surprisingly simple and resilient. The layout for the circuitry on each button is the same:
1) A solid circular dot shaped copper contact point, 2) A thin concentric copper ring surrounding the center dot.
There is a gap between the center dot and the surrounding ring. This is the electrical switch that is bridged when the button is pressed.
A small metal bulged plate sits on top of the circuit. The outer edges sit on, and make contact with, the outer ring, while the center is bulged upward over the center dot, not making contact (until pressed!).
Typically residue is coating the circuit board and metal device and preventing the electrical signal from bridging the two contact points.
Once the remote is opened, a white sticky film can be pulled back; the metal contacts and circuit board can be cleaned. Ensure the metal piece is oriented correctly before laying the film back down, and all is good!
Very helpful, I canceled the purchase of a new remote because of this. Thanks!
