Install was a piece of cake (with one minor snag)
Mijn probleem
My iMac was one of the ones with the Seagate HDD failure problem. The Apple Store already replaced my HDD once so I never paid attention to it again until I went to upgrade to Mavericks. That's when I noticed the S.M.A.R.T. Status was failing again. Of course now I'm beyond the deadline for a free HDD replacement :( When I had the HDD replaced originally it was just before Apple admitted the problem and agreed to replace everyones drives. I had to email and argue to get mine replaced originally but eventually did. I guess they put in another defective drive instead of a newer one. Oh well. I wanted to upgrade to SSD anyway even if my only option was a Hybrid drive.
Mijn oplossing
The repair was incredibly simple and went very well. I didn't have the official suction cups to remove the glass but did have some 2" window suction cups from holiday decorations that worked rather well. I got the new drive installed and Mavericks installed from an Install OS X USB Stick I made prior to shut down.
It wasn't until after the install that I noticed I had no bluetooth. Apparently at sometime during the install (my best guess is Step 4) I either hooked the blue bluetooth antenna cable and ripped it out of the incredibly tiny coax connector or knocked it out somehow during monitor reinstallation. That sucks but a replacement was found on ebay for $13 and will be here in a few days. It's right at the top left and I've already found the guide to replacing it so it should be another piece of cake install :)
Mijn advies
On or prior to Step 4 I HIGHLY recommend a warning and picture showing the blue cable and where it is with the warning to be sure to avoid snagging it. It's a seriously tiny coax cable and impossible to reattach (trust me, I tried repeatedly)
