It Worked!!!

Mijn probleem

My PS3 was in a cabinet with poor ventilation, and it was turning on at night to update and I'd come down and find it with the fan running full speed. Essentially I waited too long to move it to a better ventilated location and I tried to turn it on one day to find the yellow light of death. I didn't even know this was an issue on PS3's, obviously it just wasn't as huge an issue as XBOX 360 had.

Mijn oplossing

I've built my own computers and am not afraid to get my hands in there and figure out the internals, but taking apart a PS3 still made me nervous. My PS3 was slightly different than the model that the instructions show, but I was able to figure out the small differences, and after being very careful I had it stripped down to the motherboard in about 30-45 minutes. I then proceeded with heating up the parts of the motherboard that they tell you to, and then took 30-45 minutes to put everything back together. I was very worried after putting all this time and effort in that the repair would not work, so I was ecstatic when I plugged it in, turned it on, and behold it started up with no issues. For 40 bucks, this kit seems like a steal to get my 6 year old PS3 back up and running.

Mijn advies

Take your time; be organized with where you put the parts and pieces as you are deconstructing. I had one screw left over at the end, and I know it isn't imperative because everything is sturdy, I just wish I knew where it goes.
