iPhone battery replacement - worked, but needed more information

My iPhone 4S battery was expiring after only 4-5 hours of use.

Mijn oplossing

I bought the iFixit battery replacement kit. It worked like a charm, except for one glitch: there was not enough information about the ground clip attached to the top screw of the pressure contact (battery connector).

This very tiny part fell out of the phone immediately when I released the pressure contact, so I did not notice its original orientation. I also could not tell from the manual exactly what this part did. By blowing up the photo in Step 3 to a larger size, I was able to see its position (though not very well) and replace it correctly.

Mijn advies

It would be useful to:

- Clarify the meaning of "pressure contact." I could not tell what this meant (I actually thought it referred to the ground clip until I re-read the manual while writing this comment.) I would have called the pressure contact a "battery connector." Anyway, the pressure contact is the little dark grey square at the end of the battery cable, the one you pry out and then replace when connecting the battery.

- Say something about the ground clip at the end of Step 3 - e.g. "Before proceeding to Step 4, notice the position of the small black ground clip under the top screw of the pressure contact [battery connector]. This part has a small gold contact on its tip that faces outward, designed to make electrical contact between the circuitry in the phone body (L) and the metal plate on the inside of the phone's back (R)."

- The existing description in Step 4 would then be removed.

- Add a high-res blow-up of the pressure contact, correctly installed, with an arrow to show exactly where it is.
