Mijn probleem

I bought my MBP in 2009, and it was brand new then. Fast forward to 2014, and my once-spritely MBP had grown surprisingly old and slow. I had been preparing myself to shell out over $1,200 for a new MBP so that I could keep up with my busy schedule of website development, graphic design and 3D modeling projects. I ran a benchmark speed test and found that my computer topped out around 1-2MB/sec max... eww.

My vote: 9/10 because the copying process took me a long time, but the final product is well worth it.

Mijn oplossing

Y'all... after I doubled my RAM using crucial dot com and quadrupled my storage space using the 1TB hard drive from ifixit, I ran a benchmark test. 99MB/sec! That's 50x-100x faster! Incredible! The process took a few days to clone over my hard drive, but since it finished, my computer has been working even better than the day I bought it!

Mijn advies

Honestly, forget about SuperDuper. I know that the pretty nerdy-sexy lady who does the ifixit tutorial videos says that you should use SuperDuper, but that was the reason it took me multiple days to clone my hard drive. Whenever it runs into a problem, you have to start the WHOLE THING OVER FROM SCRATCH. I was copying 120GB. Ouch. On the other hand, CarbonCopyCloner will pause when it runs into an error. At that point, you can delete the problem file, and CCC will pick up where it left off.

It is also helpful to speed up the process if you move all of your user data (documents, presentations, photos, videos, etc.) to a separate storage vessel. I uploaded mine to google drive. It makes the cloning process faster, and it also backs up your data.
