Installing MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Dual Hard Drive

Mijn probleem

My MacBook Pro needed a performance boost and it seemed like the best way to do it would be to switch to an SSD. However, I did not like the idea of sacrificing space. Since I hardly ever use my Superdrive I figured, 'Why not swap it out?' So I did.

Mijn oplossing

The repair ultimately took much longer than expected. I first took my MacBook apart put my SSD in the drive bay then as I attempted to perform one of the last steps in the guide, connecting the drive bay to the MacBook, I realized iFixIt had sent me the wrong part. So, I put my MacBook back together and sent an email.

The next day they had the write part shipped my way via my initial shipping method (FedEx). While I was waiting I went ahead and installed Mac OS on the SSD using a drive enclosure. A couple days later I got the package and completed the install. However, I could not successfully boot of the SSD; only off the HDD. After doing some reading I realized it was because my SSD was 6Gb/s and I had to swap the SSD and HDD. So I took my MacBook apart AGAIN and swapped them. Now everything works great and I am very happy with the performance improvement.

Mijn advies

1. Check the optical drive bay when you get it and make sure it has the port you need.

2. If you get a 6Gb/s SSD, put it in the main drive bay and put your HDD in the optical drive bay.
