The repair was fairly straight forward. It was a bit intimidating taking the machine apart on the dining room table but the online guide and pictures were pretty spot on. I separated my screws into little cups and that helped with the re assembly. Once I got to the mother board and had it all clean it was time to actually fix this thing.

I supported the Mother Board on scrap lumber. Using the heat gun, I generally heated the board and then got to the reflow process. it was pretty simple. Keep the heat gun moving over the specific chips. I did the zig zag pattern for about 3 minutes. One done i let it sit for 20 or so minutes. Put it all back together and gave it a try.

IT WORKED. That night i watched Netflix for 2 hours and it gave us no problems.

Total time:

.6 for dis assembly

.3 for cleaning

.5 for the fix (reflow)

.3 for reassembly

Total. 1.7 hours

Take your time and keep things organized. Make sure to dust as long as you are in there.

When doing the re flow you will not really be able to tell if it has worked or not. Just make sure you heat it according to the guide and not touch it until cool.

Also if you end up with extra screws at the end, you missed something. Assemble and test.
