Mijn probleem

They right side fan in my daughter's 2008 MACPRO laptop was making a horrific sound. It brought me visions of expensive Genius Bar repairs and 2-3 50 mile round trips to get there. I had never repaired a computer by myself-other than powering down, then powering back up. (With Macs that is the equivalent of duct tape-it fixes everything!)

After a bit of research, I figured it was the right fan so I googled how to fix it. Looked simple enough in the video, so I shopped for a place to buy the replacement part. Because of the in depth tutorials on how to fix almost any issue, and the fact that your price was as good or better than anyone else's, I chose iFixit.

Mijn oplossing

Based on the recommendation of iFixit, I bought the Phillips screwdriver as well. I should have looked harder as there was a specialty Torx screwdriver I needed as well. Once I purchased that at Office Depot, I was golden. The disassembly went just as the tutorial said it would. Took the part out, put the new one in (It was the exact brand and model that was original to my computer!) put it all back together and crossing my fingers, I powered it up! Success! I think!? The new fan was so quiet, I wasn't sure it was working! Lo and behold, when I put my ear close to the power button I heard the gentle whir. Ahhhhh.

Mijn advies

Go for it! Try it for yourself. Some repairs just aren't that complicated! Thanks to iFixit, I FIXED IT!!!!! What an amazing feeling of accomplishment!

I would definitely do it again!
