How saving money can COST you money

I love my Mac. But I'm a true cheapskate. So, when the power cord frayed, I taped it. I ordered a new one but wanted to get every bit of life out of the old one, so I waited and waited. Then, one night, the unthinkable happened. I moved my laptop and sparks flew. Yes - sparks flew from the taped, frayed power cord. I didn't know it, but I'd just cost myself an extra 50 bucks. The computer soon started having issues -- shutting down randomly, the charge light on the new powercord not aligning with what should be happening with the computer, etc. Finally, the battery drained and the unreliable and random charging/utilizing the cord couldn't cut it anymore. I did my research and figured it was either the DC-In Board (fingers crossed) or the logic board. I called around and discovered the absolutely cheapest anyone would fix it for was $145 (plus the cost of shipping it to them and back - the folks in town wanted at least $250). That landed me at i-fix-it with the hope that my latest desire to save money wouldn't end up costing me even more.

Mijn oplossing

Bing, Bang, Boom, we're done. I love the instructions in the installation guide - it's so true that you need to take a deep breath before you work to get the case off. And keep breathing even though every "crack" of the tabs letting go will convince you that you are shattering your laptop to pieces - how nerve-wracking! The whole process took about 20 minutes and was actually quite easy (minus taking the case off).

Breathe. And know that even if you do crack the case a little bit when you're prying it apart, it likely won't do any harm. Go steady and slow and keep the pets away -- pet hair isn't exactly a good thing in your computer!
