PS3 repair worked as advertised

I received the flashing red light issue a few months ago and was figuring that the PS3 had finally bit the dust for good and I was going to have to replace it. I tried all the troubleshooting and cleaning steps found on the internet, but the PS3 was still not starting up and getting past the flashing red lights and then off issue. I tried a new hard drive for grins as well. No luck. So then I saw the ifixit youtube PS3 fix video and decided it was worth the $40 something to see if it could fix my issue. I agree with other fixers, the tools alone are nice to have for future projects for that price.

Mijn oplossing

I watched the you tube video a couple times to make sure I knew what was involved. Then when the repair kit came in the mail, that night I performed the PS3 surgery. Everything went just like the guide and video said it would. I tried to follow every step just as described and after putting it all back together it turned on right away. I was very pleased and my son even more so. The guide and videos are great and give all the direction you need. $45 for the fix vs $250 for a new PS3 is a huge difference. It has been about a month now and the PS3 is running as good as new. My son is on the PS3 almost every day for at least a short play session and it is still running strong.

Take your time and watch the video a few times. Have the online guide open so you can refer to a couple of the pictures and follow each and every step exactly as described.
