My work iPhone 4S screen went blank. The phone seemed to work otherwise. I could hear incoming phone calls, texts, etc but the screen was blank. The iPhone had insurance and all I got from Verizon, Apple, and Verizon's scam "insurance company" was the run around. I spent hours in their stores and back and forth on the phone with them. In addition, the "insurance company" (who is not affiliated with Verizon and can not bill through Verizon) wanted my business to pay $200 in a deductible for a phone that Apple is now giving away for free (that is also after charging me a monthly fee). On top of that they demanded I pay for it out of my own pocket because it could not be billed to my account. What a scam. Anyway, I did some research online and found that some people had the same situation and all that was wrong was the screen connector came loose and just had to be snapped back in. Verizon said they have never heard of this - of course. With nothing to lose, I decided to give it a try - I ordered the kit from iFixit.
I got the iFixit kit very quick in the mail. I was surprised how quickly it arrived. I immediately used the tool to take apart the iPhone. With in 3 minutes the case was off and I pressed the display connector back in place and heard a slight "snap" which was a delight to hear. I put the iPhone 4s back together and turned it on. It worked beautifully. My beautiful white iPhone was back in perfect useable service for just a few dollars and a total of about 6 minutes work.
Insurance is a waste of money and a hassle. Fix it yourself (at least try to - you have nothing to lose at that point). Its a great learning experience and it gives great you satisfaction when you do it yourself.
