Another life for a dead thing

Mijn probleem

Had iPod continuously connected in car and iPod battery died. I know that is how to kill a battery and if this was an experiment, thesis confirmed. It wouldn't hold charge for more than part of a song.

I also ordered the iPhone 5 liberation kit to have on hand. Just in case. Not yet used.

Mijn oplossing

I was a little anxious, but managed to do it at my desk at work in less than 20 minutes. I was thrilled. The parts arrived a day earlier than expected. The adhesive for the battery to the case was more tenacious than I expected.

One of the tools broke in process but not enough to make it unusable to finish disassembly for install of battery. They are definitely single use tools. But that's all I needed. I ordered extra set, but didn't end up needing to use the backup.

Mijn advies

Go slow, refer to picture that shows location of clips in online guide.

Feels like I now have another new iPod.

The adhesive strip on new battery covers ribbon cable under battery. So I wish I had not exposed the complete strip. If battery replaced again it would likely lead to tearing the cable.
