Mijn probleem

I enjoy the backward compatibility and all the extras that Sony PS3 offers ie. Apps, Downloads, Play station store, Blu-Ray, and so on. I sent this unit in twice since it was purchase in 2006. My son and I spent many hours playing various games together. Of course he is much better than i am. This is the third time the system had the YLOD as i researched what it was for the first time. I seen numerous links that described the issue, and various ways to repair. Some HOME REPAIR techniques were very entertaining. Overall i noticed the issue was with the thermos paste melting away from the chips located on the motherboard. So being a self taught IT repair person, i decided to give the ifixit site and kit a try. It couldn't be any worse, as the PS3 didn't work and i did not want to pay another $120 for the 3rd time especially with the limitations being sold with newer PS3 systems.

Mijn oplossing

To start off, i was surprised that not only did ifixit send me the pads, and paste which is what i thought i ordered, but they sent me the tool kit, and heat gun too. I followed the directions provided step by step and put out all the parts in the order taken apart on a small plastic folding table. Once apart i cleaned the old paste with and old white undershirt with a dab of Goof off. It worked perfectly. I took my time to disassemble (about 1 hour). 5 days later...due to family vacation, and me wanting to see if i could remember how to put the PS3 back together, i followed the ifix it steps provided. The paste was just the right amount...TAKE YOUR TIME putting it on, as it was my first with it. Putting the pad on was easy, just be careful when taking off the coverings and not all the adhesive. I put the system back together in about 1-2 hours. Total time working to repair PS3 is 2-3 hours, and that is taking my time because of double check and even triple checks on the ifixit web site. Overall the kit and site info are perfect. I am very please with the repair and have been using the PS3 for about 2 weeks. So far..so good. Especially since i learned how to fix the YLOD myself with help from this site of course. Thank ifixit!
