Mijn probleem

My iPhone fell in a bath of water. I waited for the screen to go black as I watched it sink. It didn't and infact came back out still playing music. I was confident that no life ending damage had been caused. However, despite drying the phone and taking the usual precautions, a day later when I went to charge the phone, charging was intermittent and eventually stopped. I suspected the dock had suffered some damage.

Mijn oplossing

I opened the phone and noticed that the water indicators hadn't changed colour. This gave me hope. I ordered the parts (why not add a new battery as well as a dock while I am in there) and used the iFixit guide to get the old dock out and new dock in. It was quite empowering to plug the phone into the laptop to charge it and hear it connect and see it charge. I ran through all of the functionality of the phone and it was perfect.

Mijn advies

The guide was perfect and had no inaccuracies.

Take your time and don't rush it. Read the guide first and if possible take your own photos before each step so that you can see how things were before you interfered. Also worth having a magnifying glass - some of the parts and clips were unbelievably small.

If anything I have even more respect for Apple devices' designers - the tolerances of the packaging are remarkable.
