Mijn probleem

I found an iPhone 4S along the shore of a river in Central Alberta. We would later find out that the phone had been under water for 3 months. In order to find the owner, the phone needed to be dismantled, cleaned up and restored. In order to do the job, it required specialized bits so I ordered the 54 Bit Driver Kit.

Mijn oplossing

After following the step by step disassembly instructions offered by iFixit I was able to recharge the phone and get it running. We were able to contact the owner who had lost the phone and he was very pleased to have it returned--he had thought it was gone for ever. He was happy because his entire holiday picture collection had been on the phone and he was able to retrieve it.

Mijn advies

The key to the repair is take your time, clean each part with alcohol and do not recharge the system until all parts are cleaned up whether wet or dry. This is because even the "silt" from the river has iron in it and if you provide power before it is all moved away, the silt will conduct electricity and cause shorts destroying the delicate electronic components.
