I went away on vacation, and when I came back, noticed that the remote (you know, the one where EVERY button is a power button) was sitting on the chair where the cats could sit on it. PS3 was dead with YLoD.
The kit was pretty much awesome. The screwdriver set is very nice, the heat gun works well, and there was enough thermal paste for both processors. There were a few things in my experience that weren't exact, since my PS3 has no wireless or memory card reader, so take note! Some of the oldest systems may vary from the instructions. Even still, the instructions were really easy to follow. Once I got finished putting it back together, it worked great! I was able to use it for several hours with no problems at all. Only hitch was the instructions seem to think that the grounding cable can be taken out at a particular stage. My grounding cable was looped through the power supply, making it impossible to completely remove until I pulled off the power supply.
Make sure you have about 3 hours that you can work on this. The thermal pads stick to the backing very nicely, but not so much to the logic board. The small ones will fall off easily, and be a pain to deal with. Not sure how to deal with that, other than get the case halves together quickly after putting the pads on. Be patient, and if something doesn't match, be flexible. This is major surgery, not for the faint of heart. But if you got YLoD, you can't make it much worse.
